Third Serve Foundation
Hello Third Serve Foundation Inc supporters, parents, partners, players, and donors. Our Fall programming is in full swing (pun intended), and we are excited to send out our first ever Baseline Newsletter. As you can see, we have been very busy creating opportunities for youth.

Local Elementary School, E.L Frierson, Kicks Off the Season with 40+ Attendees
This semester, 40+ kids ages 5-12 arrive at Roy Barth Tennis Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays to learn tennis and life skills. With a mixture of new and returning players, the atmosphere at Roy Barth tennis Center is instantly amplified as the excitement from the kids radiates throughout the courts.
Thanks to our Barth-Hawtin Tennis Academy players and teaching pros, we can provide each child with an after-school program that gets them out of their school environment for a few hours and onto Kiawah Island to learn and play tennis. Third Serve provides drinks, snacks, life lessons, and world class tennis instruction. Many thanks to Kiawah Island Golf Resort who provides the bus and driver at a discounted rate, and the tennis courts at no charge.

3S Becomes a National Junior Tennis and Learning Association (NJTL) Organization
Following the completion of 2021’s season, Third Serve became a recognized organization through the USTA’s NJTL foundation.

In 1969, the National Junior Tennis League was created as a way to gain and hold the attention of young people, with the hope of teaching them the importance of character, getting an education and becoming productive citizens. https://www.ustafoundation.com/njtl_network/
Today, the National Junior Tennis and Learning network features more than 250 nonprofit youth development organizations that offer free or low-cost tennis and
education programming to over 160,000 under-resourced youth each year.

NJTL is supported by the USTA Foundation, the national charitable organization of the USTA. The work done by its member chapters includes after-school tutoring that focuses on academic enrichment, a life-skills curriculum and, of course, tennis.
We look forward to instating the “First Serve Life Skills” curricula, highlighting not only the logistics of Tennis, but the associated etiquette, positivity and sportsmanship that continuously proves imperative to a successful tennis athlete.
Assistant Director, Nicole Grogan, Joins the Third Serve Team
The explosion of support from our students and community has led to the decision of instating the first Third Serve Assistant Director, Nicole Grogan. As a recent alumnus of The University of South Carolina, Nicole is a qualified candidate through her education, professional affiliation with the Roy Barth Tennis Center, and experience with community service in Columbia, SC as well in her home town of Williamsburg, VA.
"Amidst working closely throughout the summer with Bruce, Jonathan, and the entire Barth-Hawtin Academy, I had the privilege of seeing for myself the impact they have made in our tennis community. I have launched our new website that will continue to evolve and grow, am working towards expanding our reach in the Charleston county, and will continue in becoming a readily available liaison between you and everything Third Serve."
-Nicole Grogan, Third Serve Assistant Director
Looking Back
This past summer, we hosted our first Third Serve Fundraising and Awareness event at the Huffard residence. Through the generous hospitality from the Huffard family in addition to the support shown throughout the night, we raised a phenomenal amount of $25,360. The impact made on our organization from the funding demonstrated, is what continuously fuels our ability in making this mission a reality. As a non-profit 501(c)3, donations are the only way our team and volunteers are able to provide the materials necessary in maximizing our student's tennis experience, and is what paves the path ahead in providing tennis to children across Charleston. Thank you to our fundraiser attendees, the Huffard family, and everyone that has contributed to Third Serve's movement this past year. Whether you've shown support through volunteering, donations, or even a kind word along the way, thank you for being apart of our Third Serve family.
Looking Ahead
To continue our mission and grow our programming, Third Serve is raising special funds to purchase a sprinter or passenger van. This van will allow us to provide new programming to additional low income schools and communities. Our goal is to raise $75,000.00 for this initiative by the spring.
Please reach out via email (nicole@thirdservefoundation.com) or through one of our contact forums if you would like to contribute or have a contact in the auto industry that may be able to help.
As Always, Thank You to Our Sponsors
